This beautifully restored barn conversion in Nottinghamshire combines the character of original features with the ease of modern technology. The clients wanted a kitchen that respected the history of the building while offering the comfort and functionality of a contemporary home. Designed primarily for two, but with the flexibility to host family and friends, the result is a warm and welcoming space that brings the outdoors in, making the most of its stunning countryside setting.
"Barn conversions offer such wonderful opportunities to celebrate old and new. In this project, our aim was to frame the building’s original architecture while providing a kitchen that feels both practical and timeless. We wanted to keep the rustic charm while ensuring the space worked seamlessly for modern living.”
By carefully considering flow, natural light, and sightlines, the kitchen now feels bright and connected to its surroundings. Large glazed barn doors flood the space with daylight and open directly to the countryside beyond, while exposed brickwork was preserved and enhanced, creating a striking feature framed by bespoke cabinetry. A generous island, painted in Little Greene Paint Company’s Sage Green, defines the kitchen’s footprint, providing essential storage and prep space without isolating the cook.

In The Detail
The cabinetry was designed to complement the exposed brickwork and oak detailing, ensuring the restored barn fabric remained central to the aesthetic.
Practical storage solutions are blended into the open-plan layout, keeping the kitchen clutter-free while remaining sympathetic to the architecture.
